چکیده

High-resolution multispectral images of main-belt asteroid 3 Juno were taken at visible and near-IR wavelengths with the 100-inch telescope at Mount Wilson Observatory equipped with an adaptive optics system. The images show spectral features that may represent a large relatively recent impact that deeply excavated the coarse-grained olivine–pyroxene-rich crust of the asteroid. © 2003 Elsevier Science (USA). Adaptive Optics Observations of Arcturus using the Mount Wilson 100-inch Telescope

Upon inspection of the multiple star results in the HIPPARCOS catalog (European Space Agency, 1997), the flag for entry number 69673 particularly stands out; it is Arcturus, for which no companion has been reported previously. The HIPPARCOS companion is reported to be at a separation of 0.255± 0.039 arcsec with a magnitude difference in a broadband filter (peaked near 460 nm) of 3.33 ± 0.31. We...

Sharp Lines in the Spectrum of Nova

FernalcTs discovery of the recent outburst of Nova RS Ophiuchi on July 14.1, 1958 (UT) was telephoned to the Mount Wilson Observatory from Berkeley by Dr. Leland E. Cunningham. The star reached maximum at about magnitude 5.0 later that night. It has since been reported that Peltier had observed the star at magnitude 11.1 on the previous night. I was the observer on the 60-inch telescope on the ...

The NEAR Multispectral Imager

he Multispectral Imager, one of the primary instruments on the Near Earth Asteroid Rendezvous (NEAR) spacecraft, uses a five-element refractive optics telescope, an eight-position filter wheel, and a charge-coupled device detector to acquire images over its sensitive wavelength range of ≈400–1100 nm. The camera operates at a frame rate of 1 Hz, and the detector is passively cooled. The primary ...

Visual Spectroscopy of Asteroids at San Pedro Martir

We present low resolution reflectance spectra over the wavelength range 5000– 10000Å for 4 asteroids (3 belonging to the Nysa family and one near–Earth asteroid) obtained at the San Pedro Martir Observatory (Mexico) using the 2.1m telescope. Though the limited wavelength range covered often makes a classification difficult, the analysis of the available data reveals that two asteroids of the Ny...

Variations of the apparent solar semidiameter observed with the astrolabe of Santiago

Measurements of the Sun semidiameter made with the Danjon astrolabe at Santiago, Chile, and with the magnetograph of the solar telescope of Mount Wilson Observatory during the period 1990-1995, show similar variations in time and with a similar trend as the variation of sunspot number. The consistency of these results obtained at different sites and with rather different observing techniques co...
